New definition for PR

“What do you do?”
“Public relations.”
“Oh, like advertising?”

Not exactly.

How many times have you tried to explain to your friends and family what public relations actually is?
Nowadays, the lines are blurry and public relations seems to encompass a much wider range of strategies and media as ever used before.
But have no fear because the Public Relations Society of America is establishing a modern definition as part of their “Public Relations Defined” campaign.
The elected definition will hopefully provide a succinct reference to explain our profession.
They’ve narrowed it down to three options which you can actually vote for.
Although the term will be officially redefined in the dictionary, I think leading PR professionals will continue to constantly evolve and redefine themselves.

    I like to just tell people in simple terms I make people famous or I change the way in which the general public thinks. PR is broader than saying you work in Law. 😉 I saw a documentary recently where the CEO of Burson Marsteller said “We give organisations a voice so that they can be heard.”
